Exerpt From Burned

A smidgen of the novel I'm writing

Serafina's eyes fluttered open and she looked around. She was in yet another cold, white room on yet another metal topped table. She sat up and wobbled a little before gasping in pain. Whatever those doctors used to knock her out gave her a terrible headache.
On the other side of the room there was another table like the one she was sitting on. But on that table there was a familiar sleeping half-angel.
"Lance!" She cried, running over to him. He jolted awake and smiled when he saw Serafina. He sat up and hugged her tightly, "Sera! Oh, are you okay? Did they do anything to you?"
Serafina shook her head, "No. But Ma-"
As she was talking, the door slid open and, speak of the devil, Dr. Maggie Silverstorm walked in. Her blond hair had been brushed back into order and her burned wrist was wrapped in a bandage. When Serafina saw her she lunged of the table and towards her. Lance pulled her back and stepped in front of her.
Maggie laughed, "How sweet. The angel is protecting the demon."
Serafina's eyes began glowing red, "Who said I need protecting?"
"I'm not protecting you." Lance said, looking back, "I'm making sure you don't do something you'll regret."
Maggie laughed again, "Your powers won't work in this room. You can't do anything to me."
Serafina sneered and held out her hand. To her surprise, no fire appeared there, "What do you want from us?" She said furiously.
"To get rid of you." Maggie said seriously, "What both of you are is unnatural. You shouldn't exist. There's only one reason for your existence."
Lance narrowed his eyes, "Maggie. It's not your place. You have no right to pass judgment on our place in this world. So I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself."
"As I was saying," Maggie said, unfazed by his slight threat, "Is that we have to get rid of you before your purpose is fulfilled."
Serafina looked at both of them, "What do mean? What's our purpose?"
Maggie smiled, "Oh, so you haven't told her?"
Lance's eyes flashed dangerously, "Maggie. I'm warning you-"
"Your purpose is to either pick if the world goes to darkness or light." Maggie said, "And to do that, one of you has to destroy the other. One of you must die."

  1. You use a lot of strong verbs, which is very good and hard to learn.

But also, I find your names a little strange. Serafina? Dr. Silverstorm? That decreases it's realism.
